Sao Vicente Island

Sao Vicente (Portugese for “Saint Vincent”) is the second most popular island of Cape Verde with approximately 70,000 people living in the main colonial port capital of Mindelo. With many attractive beaches, hidden coves and stunning views the Click to enlarge map island certainly offers one of the world’s most attractive getaways.

The main beach area is the Baia das Gatas which sits beautifully in front of the highest point on the island being Monte Verde at 725m. With the new attractions of the Nikki Beach 5 star resort, and the Ernie Els World Championship PGA Golf Course being developed in the Baia Das Gatas, the future looks very positive indeed.

The island is roughly rectangular in shape with a surface area of ca. 227 km². From east to west it measures 24 km and from north to south no more than 16 km. The climate boasts mainly all year round sunshine with the mountainous areas offering protection to the beaches from the winds. Soaring temperatures during European Winters make Sao Vicente an ideal attraction both to visit and live.

The Cape Verde Islands are a fast emerging market in the property world. With a fantastic, year-round climate and within easy reach of Europe, it is understandable why people refer to it as the new Caribbean. The infrastructure in many of the islands is fast being improved to cater for the rise in visitors arriving on these stunning islands with direct flights from the UK.

Sao Vicente is very cosmopolitan and has a thriving cultural side to it, it has spawned some of the greatest artists of the Cape Verdean music scene, this has led to a bohemian type of community with many artists and musicians populating the island.

There are lots of activities to suit everyone's needs, - some of the best diving in West Africa, the islands have some of the best conditions in the world for windsurfing, kite surfing and surfing, not forgetting four new golf courses, 2 to be built on Sao Vicente including the proposed PGA Championship Golf Course and Golf Academy close to Ocean View Golf Estates.

Mindelo just 15 minutes from Ocean View Golf Estates, will not disappoint anyone in search of a hectic nightlife, also the carnival in Mindelo 's is something to be seen. There is also an annual festival on the Islands during August called the festival of Baia das Gatas, this is a 3 day festival and is increasingly becoming a international music event.
